If you would like to earn academic credit for your internship, you must enter your
experience in Handshake to ensure a smooth approval process. It is recommended that
you meet with Ana White and Megan Cunningham prior to entering your Experience.
- Ana White, Director of Academic Advising for CACS. Students can schedule an appointment
with Ana via Navigate.
- Megan Cunningham, Director of Internship Programs. Students can schedule an appointment
with Megan via Navigate.
ALL internships must be entered as an Experience on Handshake, even if you applied
for the job via Handshake. To enter an Experience into Handshake:
- Log in to Handshake.
- Select “Career Center” toward the top of the page.
- Select the “Experiences” button.
- Select the “Create Experience” button.
- In the drop down “Experience Type” list select your major. You should only select
one of the four majors listed below.
- Applied Project Design and Analysis
- Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences
- Industrial Distribution
- Project Design and Analysis
- Fill in the relevant information. Some of the things to know before you begin this
process:
- Number of hours you plan to work per week.
- Start and end dates.
- Your hourly pay rate.
- Your supervisor’s contact information
- Job responsibilities
- The internship course that you are requesting.
- APDA – SPDA 3012
- BAAS – AMDS 4800
- PDA – SPDA 2012, SPDA 3012, or SPDA 4012
- INDS – INDS 4800
- Requested Number of semester credit hours
- Credit hour formula: (Weekly hours worked x Total weeks worked) / 165; Example: (10
hours/week x 16 weeks = 160 hours); 160 hours divided by 65 = 2.45 hours. The student
is eligible for 2 SCH of internship credit because credit hours can only be earned
in whole numbers.)
- Remember to not request more than the number of credit hours that are needed based
on your degree plan. You can confirm the number of hours needed with your Academic
Advisor.
- Once all information has been entered, click “Request Experience” at the bottom of
the screen.
- Once you’ve entered your Experience, the approvals process will begin.
- An academic advisor will enroll you in the course once your Experience has been approved.
- If your experience is denied, you must start the process over.
- Examples of things that will get your experience denied:
- Selecting the incorrect template.
- Not including detailed job responsibilities.
- Incorrect semester credit hours math.
